Forest Conservation Areas are usually large tracts of forest set aside during the development process. These areas may take the form of an easement on your property or a separate dedicated parcel. If the tree in question is in a forested area please check with the Planning and Zoning Department to see if it is in a Forest Conservation Area.
Landscape Buffers are often found along property lines in major subdivisions and commercial properties. They help to separate less intense land uses from streets and more intense uses.
"Champion trees are the largest known tree of a given species in a particular geographic area." If you suspect the tree in question may be a Champion Tree, please contact the Planning and Zoning Department.

A Site Plan or accurate drawing shall be included with the application indicating the location of all trees to be removed. The plan shall depict site features such as the location of the 100’ Critical Area Buffer, all tidal and non-tidal wetlands, streams, steep slopes, shoreline and any other features relative to the request. The plan shall also identify the locations chosen for replanting.
A narrative shall be included with the application describing the existing conditions and the proposed work to be accomplished.
Please provide photos of the trees.
If available, please provide an evaluation report/ letter from an expert on the conditions of the trees. This letter may be required in some instances.
Any modifications during review shall warrant an updated application.
During review of this application, additional information and action may be required of the applicant and all reviews and approvals shall be obtained prior to the commencement of any work.
